The Parish for Stoke Mandeville comprises a larger area than the village itself. Bucks Council has broken the parish into four distinct wards, or neighbourhoods, based on developments over the past 30+ years.

The first ever sports events for disabled people were hosted at Stoke Mandeville Stadium in Buckinghamshire by Dr Ludwig Guttmann in 1948. The village continues to be known for its association with the Paralympic Games, being part of the Paralympic torch relay in every Games since 2012 (its contribution known as the 'Legacy flame'), and giving its name to the Paralympic Games mascot, Mandeville, in 2012. o find out more about the history of the paralympics go to Paralympic History.

The Village Society does not recognise these wards in its work instead choosing to embrace all those who reside, work, visit and uses the village, to be considered part of the village community.
